Why is my processor fan so loud?

Why is my processor fan so loud?

My CPU stock fan started getting loud so I went and bought a replacement, this fan is still loud. what could the problem be? It is not unbearable loud, but i can still hear it very well.

Additional Details

I am not running games, just turn it on and it is a little loud. The thermal paste is on right, it is a brand new heatsink/fan so it isn't dirty. My video card is new too and is not dirty. I clean the PC regularly so it wouldn't be dust build up. Usually when I play games I expect to be able to hear it.

1 day ago|||Could be the other fan. There are two fans inside a pc. Forgot the name of it, but have that one checked out as well.|||Gets to hot...|||As the fan screws ontop of the heat sink make sure it is on there even ,spin the fan with your finger to check that its running free|||Most fans are pretty loud. its fine that it's loud because as long as its doing the job of keeping your processor cool.|||Do you over clock your comp ? Is your computer in a reasonable space to breathe ? As soon as your computer gains heat your fans will spin to cool it down BUT the more hotter it gets, the more the fans will spin, so your computer must be really hot. What about the power supply ? is it the right power going in to your computer ? perhaps this might cause it to heat much quicker

Bfg 8600 gts o.c. quit working what should i do to test it before sending in for warranty replacement?

My wife played Sims 3 all day when she saved and quit at 9pm yesterday the video card quit sending information to the monitor. I rebooted the computer manually with no sucess. I then turned off the power to the computer and left it alone for five minutes came back and rebooted to no sucess. I did note that the cards fan was running. I shut down the computer again removed the card and hooked up the onboard video with the old vga cable. The monitor worked fine. What at home tests should I do now before sending the card in for a replacement?|||Try put back that card and start your pc. If not working again, try use the card to another pc like your friend or mates. If still not working , just RMA the card to the manufacturer.|||reinstall the drivers and update the bios. It could also be the BIOS setting for your vga card. See if you can enable anything with express vga mode.

What fan does a NVIDIA geforce 9500 gs use?

my girlfriend's computer has been making a rattling noise for about half a year, and we're kinda getting tired of it. so we opened up the case and looked around for the issue and saw that it was the fan on her video card vibrating. it's off it's kilter, unstable.. etc. pretty much, we need to get a new fan for it. but neither of us know anything about buying tiny fans for video cards... can anyone point us in the direction of what fan to buy as a replacement? we've looked around, but can't place our fingers on ONE fan, that WILL work. lots of them look good, but we don't know which one to pick, if the screw holes will match up and so on. so, any help anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated. thanks!|||Its Hard To Just Get The Fan Because Very Few People Change The Fan Them-self However You Could Replace the Heat-sink Would Be Simpler But If Your Are Not Sure What You Are Doing Inside It, It Is Best To Send It Off To Be Repaired By NVIDIA Would Be Best As They Have All The Parts At Hand Also It Wont Void Your Warranty If You Have One

Video card overheating -- what can I do to stop this?

So I bought a BFG GeForce 8400 GS at Best Buy, after about 2 months of non-stop artifacts, bright as hell colors during gaming, graphical lock and PC crashes, I finally requested an RMA with BFG. After 2 weeks, I got my replacement card today. It's doing the same thing. I went to Staples about a week ago and I bought this fan that attaches to that metal expansion bay where you put PCI stuff. It screws in there, it's a huge fan that sits right infront of the fan of the video card to allow additional cooling. Apparently it's not working.

So, these bright colors and glitchy bright blocks around the texture of things in the game is from overheating, right? Well, what can I do to stop this? Can I buy a better fan for this card? Do I need a new card all together? Thanks.|||This could also be a problem with the PCI express port on the motherboard I wouldn't count that out. How long do you play until it artifacts? Its unlikely that its the card because its your second one. Stock computers have horrid cooling so its probably an overheating issue.|||It sounds like the card is either overclocked beyond it's capabilities or it has a design flaw. I would download "NTune" from NVIDIA's website and check to see if it is overclocked by going into the GPU settings.

If it isn't, request a cashe refund from BFG.

And another thing, why are you getting a 8400? That is outdated by today's standards.

Also check your power supply and make sure it has enough wattage and ampere rating. Power supply issues are the number one cause of hardware problems on a PC.|||Yeah I was going to tell you about the PCI Fan, that's what I use. If you're still having problems it could probably be an inadequate Power Supply. How many watts is your power supply and what are the full specifications of your computer?

512MB GDDR3 Video Card Upgrade; want 1GB GDDR5 Video Card!?

I have an ATi Radeon 4850 HD, this video card is obsolete in my opinion and I do not want to use it. This card has 512MB of GDDR3, and is 256-Bit. I'm using third-party software to turn the fan on and underclock it since the regular windows drivers doesn't do anything of that automatically. (Using RivaTuner & Real Temp) I am looking for an equivalent nVidia card in comparison to mine as a replacement, but I'm wondering if my PCIe 2.0 x16 slot can support a 1GB or 2GB GDDR5 nVidia Card. I bought this computer in 2009 and it is still under warranty, Best Buy is giving me a hassle on replacing mine with an equivalent Nvidia in the mean time so I guess I have to cough up $$$...

I have a Delta Power Supply 360/350watts, My Delta Power Supply is only 350watts, but is powering my ATi Video Card which needs 6-pin adapter from power supply, and it's PCI Express 2.0. My Radeon requires 450 Watts from the Power Supply, and runs fine. It's the stock video card that came with the computer. There's only one thing I'm skeptical about, if I can get a GDDR5 card, they were released in Late-Mid 2009, I think. I've been researching this upgrade for over a week and need a serious good recommendation on what to do. And please don't tell me to make a new build; I'm doing that after I finish upgrading this one this one for my fiancee.

So here the grand question... *drum roll please*

Are PCIe 2.0 x16 GDDR3/4 Memory Interface Slot Architectures on x58 motherboards compatible with 1-2GB Nvidia GDDR5 video cards, with suffice amount of watts being given to it by the PSU.

I have a Dell Studio XPS 435MT

Intel Core i7 @ 2.66GHZ

Locked Intel X58 motherboard with 1 PCIe 2.0 x16 slot for the video card.

4GB of DDR3 ram (Stock)

I'm happy with this PC but I'm a gamer and like using proper software to control my video cards, not third-party applications.|||The short answer is:

As long as the slot is PCIE 16x, you can use any damn PCIE based card you like.

It does not matter whether it's GDDR3 or GDDR5.

The only limits are your power supply wattage, the size of your case and your wallet.

If you want a decent video card, be prepared to spend upwards of $160 to $200.

If you want to know how powerful your power supply needs to be, you read the reviews. A very simple google search will tell you.

The Toms hardware guide tells you every year what are the best graphic cards to buy (for that time period) for each budget range.

Replacement Fan for Geforce 7600GT (PCI-E)?

I've got that video card (yeah, I know, it's a few years old) and the fan sounds like it's dying. I'd like to replace it but I can't seem to find a suitable replacement fan. I've searched all around but cannot find a fan that is specifically for this card. Can anyone point me to where I can buy a replacement for this specific card? Thanks.|||Finding a replacement cooler may be a bit difficult. If you do it via manufacturer, you'll prolly have to spend a bit of money to get it anyway. The best option, if you are intent on repairing your card, is to get an after market cooler. I poked around on a trusted site (newegg.com) and found a $15 copper cooler that should outgun the stock cooler and fit your card:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

One thing, if you get the point where you're spending more than $25 on cooling, just upgrade to a new 8600 GT for $50 with MIR:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

It will perform better in newer games as it is better optimized for them. Raw power is about the same...|||Go to the shop that you bought the card.

Need some help with my 8600 gt video card?

Ive had my xfx 8600 gt card for about a year and a half.I think the bearings in the fan are going out cuz its making a very annoying buzzing sound.I have tryed cleaning it but the problem still presits.Anyone know where I can get a replacement fan for it?I have searched newegg.com and tigerdirect but I want to make sure I get the right fan.|||You caneven go to your local radio shackand pick up a 40mm fan for about 5 bucks. You can try to replace your old one or just hot glue the new fan over the old one. (that actually works very well and is easier too)|||Video cards typically use a 40mm fan. Any 40mm fan can be used to replace yours. I'm sure Newegg has several. Also, the fan can easily be replaced. See a pic of the fan removed here:

Sony Vaio CS users! What are those unscrew compartments on the back of the notebook?

I was wondering is it like a fan replacement, video card replacement, or RAM replacement, etc? It dosent say in the manual.

Just curious?

there's one compartment next to the battery and one close to the 2 usb plung-ins and jacks.|||I'm assuming when you say back you mean the bottom as if you were using it, i.e. the underside of the notebook.

Usually screw retained compartments on the bottom of a notebook are for access to one of three things: RAM, CPU or Hard Drive.

Most likely it is the RAM and CPU, as nowadays the Hard Drive is either entirely contained or accessible via a side/back panel as opposed to one on the bottom.

If you actually mean the back, I can't find any indication of the compartments you're speaking of.

Hope this helped!|||Be careful. There are normally access ports for ram expansion, wireless and maybe network cards. Video cards are normally built in to the motherboard and can not be changed. Do not touch anything in these without removing power and the battery, and then only with proper anti-static protection.

Oh my god, computer fan issue?

Okay so here we have me and my shitty computer.

Cant afford to buy a new computer...

Cant afford to buy a new video card...

My Video Card Fan sounds like a Jet Engine....so I cleaned it many many times, it would help a bit, but it would always come back, now its making a buzzing sound...

My inside sources are telling me thats bad.

So I was going to take the Video Card back and just trade it in at Best Buy (where I got it)

But then I couldnt find the receipt! (GRRRRRR....)

So then I was going to just buy a replacement fan for it....turns out

They dont sell any.......(GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.....)

So here I have a broken *** fan, with my broke *** self, with no butt *** receipt....

So im asking for several options here...if anyone wants to know its a Radeon HD 4650|||i saw a 5670 card with 1Gb online for 70 USD. if your power supply can support that, i'd think that's the way to go. it's more powerful than the 4650 card, too. [hmm -- requires a PCI-e x16 slot -- do you have one of those?]

newegg.com online still has a few AGP or even PCI graphics cards available

there's a power supply sizer app on the newegg.com site -- left side of the power supplies page|||Well install a fan near to graphics card but not attached to it,more sound ensures more power implies more cooling i have 5 fans excluding smps and processor ,just installed anxiety that no heat must harm my pc,so it doesn't provide much sound, coz i make holes on cabinet and isntalled an tightend with rubber washer so vibration sound will not come, but the air noise willl be there, but it's affordable|||after some googling it seems to be an issue with that card. since you do not have the receipt from best buy I would call the manufacture of the card and see if there is something they can do. maybe they can send you a replacement fan or a new card.|||Okay, let me just say first of all... Please don't consider buying an Apple just because you can't find a receipt. That is extreme and at best, ignorant once you consider the cost per performance ratio that makes Apple computers a hole for you to shovel your money.

If you bought the card with a credit or debit card, Best Buy can often use that to get the purchase information so you may not need a receipt.

The slot cooler that another person suggested is a good idea. One thing that could be causing the buzz is a pretty simple problem that has taken me a while to figure out. Check to make sure that no loose cables inside your computer are hitting any fan. If there are some dancing around in there, use some nylon ties to secure them.|||I'm not sure what your question is, if you don't have the receipt, I don't think Best Buy can do anything for you. My best suggestion is to save up some money for an apple computer. Apple can actually do a search for your receipt using your email, a serial number, or even your credit card you used to purchase it. You also get a 1 year applecare warranty to fix anything and everything that goes wrong with it.|||If your fan is that loud, then the card is overheating. I highly doubt you broke the fan. Stock coolers on GPUs can be extremely loud. Your choices are to buy a new heatsink for the card, or buy a case fan to put over the cards core, to help the card's heatsink out (hopefully) making it run quieter.

Here are is a possible option for a heatsink:

Fan replacement for FX5500?

I recently purchased a FX5500 video card and it's perfect for what I need at the moment. Unfortunately I find the fan on the card to be quite loud and I am looking for a cheap way to replace it with something quieter. I've looked at the Arctic Cooling product line but none officially support the FX5500. Any suggestions? The model I have is the EVGA 128-A8-N319-LX for the AGP slot with 128MB DDR.|||I had a similar problem on another graphics card. You won't find one that is "officially supported". Best you can do is find one of the same dimensions. Carefully measure yours LxWxH and compare to the ones you're looking at. Other things to consider, but you might not have a lot of choice about it are fan RPMs and airflow. When you take off the old one and look carefully at it, it should say on there somewhere.

Lastely is the phisical connection (screw holes, etc). If the dimensions are the same, then you should be able to attach it somehow. This last part was the one that gave me the most trouble, but I managed to find some srews that worked for me.|||Heres a bunch of 20-25 DBa videocard cooling devices.

PSU wont start with video card plugged?

One week ago my computer shut down automatically and it wouldn't start up anymore. I called a friend to bring up his PSU to make a test and it started up. So I presumed that my PSU(520W) was broken and sent it for a replacement one as it was in warranty period. I picked up my brand new PSU today and attached it to all the components, 3 fans HDD video card motherboard. I tried starting it up and... nothing again.

I had no problems with my old one for 6 months so it should be able to power up all my components. I tried all the possible permutations, unplugging fans, hdd, video card, and it would only start without my video card. My video card has 2 PCI slots for power because it can't draw enough power from my motherboard.

Does anyone have a clue why my computer wont startup with the video card plugged in?|||It is tough to tell,.

When your friend brought his over, what brand and size PSU did he use and what Brand PSU are you using currently?

Are you plugging in the two extra power connections from the PSU to the video card?|||if you upgraded your video card from stock it may be your motherboard not being able to handle the power that the card is drawing. i would see to upgrading your motherboard.|||The power supply could have killed something on its way out

I need a geforce 7600 gs replacement fan?

by fan is bent which prevent it from spinning

the full description for my video card is

512 mb eVGA NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS (fan is embedded into heat sink)

what does the description mean?

does any of it tell me which brand or model my replacement fan should be?

i went to frys and they said i should just replace the fan with the heatsink, but he did recommend me a good product as a replacement

|||You can passively cool that video card (as in, using no fan but just heat sinks).

I REALLY ONLY NEED THE FAN (IT MELTED) CAN I ONLY GET THE FAN OR DO I HAVE TO BUY AN ENTIRE NEW VIDEO CARD?

I greatly appreciated any help, and I thank you for your time in advance!|||I found one here:

http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/default…

It appears that you can replace the fan, however, I am not sure how easy they are to come by. May have to contact ATI about that.

OH and yes, that other card will work for you!

Desktop computer won't start after attempting installation of a new video card?

I disabled the on board video card, a ati radeon xpress 200 in the device manager, physically installed the replacement card, Visiontek hd 4350, turned on the computer and started the installation from the cd. Upon its completion, I went to reboot, and now my computer turns on (cpu fan is running), but it won't progress even to the bios screen.

Are there Replacement Fans for Video Card?

I have a Maddog Multimedia card (ATI Radeon 9550 AGP). More Details: http://www.mdmm.com/spec.php?productid=1

The fan on the card is making a grinding sound.

Can I get a replacement fan? What size do I need? Where can I get it?

Thanks.|||wonderful vga cooling is here >

http://www.zalmanusa.com/|||It says that it has a Lifetime Warranty. Have you contacted the manufacturer yet? I don't know whether you can only replace the fan. You can probably replace the heatsink though. Have you tried cleaning it yet?|||Go here: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/…

And you may want to do a further search...although that fan says it fits Radeons.|||My brother got one for his card I think it was about $10.00 + S/H from CompUSA 1-800-COMPUSA

Get ready to give them Mfg Part # and SKU

Good Luck!|||if you have good eyesight a philips screwdriver maybe a needlenose pliers, it's easy to clean/ re-lube the fan. just get the blade off which is held in place by a tiny tiny lock washer which can easily get lost and not supposed to be reusable but if you're careful enough you can use it again.

Any suggestions for an aftermarket video card fan...?

I have a MSI NX8600GT-T2D512E OC video card ( http://us.msi.com/product/p_spec.asp?mod… ) that has had the stock fan die on it. Has anyone replaced a fan on this model card and if so, what fan kit did you use? Did you need to modify the card at all (i.e. drill new holes or file the existing ones down)?

I've also seen where some forums recommended using a case fan and just using a zip tie to hold the fan over the existing fan. Does this work as a long term solution or will I just be slowly killing my video card? I currently have a case fan sitting loose in the tower blowing on the card and the temps dropped from about 120-130C to about 70C (which as far as I can tell is close to the normal temp for my card under load).

Oh, just wanted to point out, that I'm not doing any overclocking but the card is overclocked from the manufacturer. I am not looking to overclock so really looking for an inexpensive fix, otherwise I'd just upgrade to a higher end card as a replacement.

Thanks,

Jim|||I have used the Zalman VF700 with the 8600GT and it cools a lot better than the tiny stock fansink. It should have no trouble keeping your 8600GT at around 60C or so under load.|||The 8600 was the "low-end" card of the 8 series. If you can find an 8800GTX or XXX for a decent price I'd recommend buying that. Next...check your computer. How dusty is it? Dust is an insulator - a thick layer of dust will make the card soak-up more heat before it starts to radiate off the card.

As for the overclocking issue...I'm sorry, but heat hot enough to cause near 2nd degree burns? There is more at issue than just overclocking, because unless they tripled the assorted clock speeds on the card, there is no (good) reason it should be over 80 or so Deg. C!

Incidentally...you need about a good handspan of distance behind your computer to any obstructions to maximise heat venting so that the warm air isn't being sucked back into the computer...and if your GPU is running that high...your CPU will probably be running hot too...

Good Luck!

Video Card Fan Replacement?

Can I remove and replace my fan on a video card without damaging the card itself?|||Yes you can. Just make sure that replacement fan matches the old fan. You may be required to remove the heatsink of the video card to access the fan.|||When you take it out make sure to keep yourself grounded. They have replacement and performance upgrades for all types of videocards on newegg and elsewhere. When you install the new part make sure to use thermal paste, or sometimes they come with thermal tape. If you have to buy thermal paste, I recommend Arctic Silver if you are interested in performance. Make sure to keep your fingers away from the processor and contact section lots of oil and grease on your fingers. A dab of alcohol on cloth clean both is also my recommendation.|||Yes, you can depending on what kind of video card you have. Most of those fans are either snap on or screw on. Check out tigerdirect.com or newegg.com for replacement videocard fans. A lot of times the newer fan is better. This also improves videocards with only a heatsink and no fan.|||Yes, just be sure you are replacing with a fan with the same specifications

Does the computer power supply fan spin during start up? And should it always spin?

I have had recent noise coming from my computer, the sound is a fan that is making a squealing noise. I know it is not my video card because it has been recently replaced when the computer was making the sound. It is also not my misc. fans because I've disconnected them to diagnose. So that leaves my processor fan or my PSU fan. Now today I had the computer power shut off all of a sudden and a burning smell came from my computer. I disconnected it and left it for a while, then quickly plugged it in with the side door open to see if the fans were spinning. The processor fan is spinning, but the PSU one is not. I can't tell where the noise is coming from so just wondering if the PSU fan is suppose to spin all the time. That way I can replace the correct part. I don't have any replacement parts so I really need some help. Thanks in advance.|||If the CPU fan wasn't working, you'd be told in the setup when you boot your computer as it's essential that your CPU has a fan. If it's spinning, it sounds like it's fine. Your PSU on the other hand, is more than likely the problem. It should be spinning from the moment you power up. If it's not, it's got a problem and will likely need replacing.

Replacement fan for Geforce 9500GT?

One of the bearings went on my GPU fan, so looking to replace it. However, I'm not quite sure which aftermarket fan will work/fit on the GeForce 9500GT video card. Anybody know?

Thanks!|||Not sure about that. I didn't find anything in a quick search I did.

Take a look here and see if you can find anything.

it says that the memory clock speed is 2000GHz, while my ati CCC (catalyst control center) says its only running at 1000GHz

could this possibly be becuz my mobo doesnt support pcie 2.0? or is the CCC readings wrong? or was i ripped off or they forgot to overclock it? should i send it back for a replacement?

thanks a lot, im pretty new to video cards and all|||the ram is 1000ghz. the data rate is 2000ghz. theres nothing wrong with the card.|||Really not a thing could tell yah w/o more information, having the tech specs for the card is all nice and dandy but need running specs to see. However going from 1000 GHZ to 2000 GHZ isn't an overclock issue, yah don't simply double your speed on an OC, maybe boost 5%, 10%, 15% is feeling lucky over initial specs. My guess is likely its in conflict with your Mobo, maybe not supporting pci-e 2.0 or maybe your tester isn't telling properly because isn't designed with that vid card model in mind.

Try some other test methods, theres ATI Tool, theres NTune, and theres a whole bunch of others. First suggestion is make sure its reading the same on a few diff testers, second go to the companies website and read the tech manual..... could also do that probably at ATI's site. 3rd ask for support from the maker of the card.|||Don't worry about it. The specs show this is running just as it was intended and designed. Go have fun with it.

Good luck.

How do I find a video card for my computer?

It should be simple enough. I need a replacement for the one I have: 512mb nvidia geforce 95gs. But if I run a search online...I can't find it. I have a HP Pavilion Slimline s3700z desktop computer. I went to HP and the website says I should get a new fan...but doesn't tell me where to get one (I can't find just a fan on their site). I see other similar video cards...but how do I know which one to get for my computer? Is there a website that shows all possible cards for my computer?|||The only thing you really need to know is what type of slot you have for the card to go in. You didn't say which fan you needed to replace, but you can buy replacement fans online!

Can i get a replacment cooler for my video card?

ok so i have a nvidia 8300 gs video card it came with my dell inspiron 530 when i bought it about 2 years ago and the fan started making really loud grinding noises then one day just stop working so now i have to use the on board video and it sucks i know this card is crappy but it is better then the on board and i cant afford to buy a better card right now so i want to know if i can buy a after market heatsink and fan that will fit or can i find a replacement of the original cooler thanks for any replys|||if you dont have warrenty then you cant get a replacement for the whole vga then thats the end of it ... you wont be able to find the same gpu cooler for your vga out there unless you found out a burned 8300 gs and you take out its fan and attach it to your card ... there are after market coolers for your vga which are really really expensive at the moment ... it will coast you the same prize of your vga to buy a after market vga cooler ... the least expensive out there must be the one shown in the below link ...

i dont think you should go for it ... instead wait till you collect some money and then buy a new vga ...|||try searching newegg.com or tigerdirect.com for a heatsink

Video Card Interface compatible to MOBO?

the video card says pci express 2.1x16 and this is the slots for the mobo:

PCI Express 2.0 x16 1

PCI Express x16 1, running at x4 speed

PCI Express x1 3 PCI Express gen2 x1 slots

PCI Slots 2 PCI slots, support 3.3V/ 5V PCI bus Interface

What does this mean?

Also, does evberything look ready to go? As a first time pc builder what would be your steps to assyembiling this? That and which way should the termal paste be applied? Horizontal vertical, or just a blob? It's a quad processor and I was told it was suppose to be either horizontal or vertical.

Subtotal:|||I'm with the above poster on the PSU, this is not a place to save on the budget. 750w is my recommended minimum also right now.

Thermal paste... Well, a new STOCK CPU cooler comes with thermal interface material already on it. If you plan on installing an aftermatket cooler and overclocking, then you will need the paste. Otherwise, just use the stuff that comes stock on the cooler, it's not too bad.

DO NOT APPLY THEM BOTH!

If you don't want to use the stuff that came on the stock cooler, clean it off before using the Artic Silver.

Too many people use way too much thermal interface compound when they apply it. The size of the actual core of the CPU is about the size of the fingernail on your index finder, right under the center of the CPU. It is NOT the entire "silver" top of the CPU. Only apply a small amount (about the size of a small pea in the center of the chip. I don't spread it, I just let it squeeze outward from there as I lock down the cooler. The thermal paste will heat up and takes a good day to actually cure (you can use the PC right away though) but the thermal interface should improve over a day or two.

I ALWAYS install the CPU and cooler outside the case. I place it on the motherboard box and install it right there. sometimes the cooler locking mechanisms require a bit of force. I don't like putting that pressure on the motherboard against the case stand-offs.

(is Intel still using those stupid push locks?)|||I'd get the Corsair 750w PSU long before gambling on a not-so-well-established brand such as kingwin. Especially for the same price.

The motherboard comes with one PCIe 16x slot for video.

It has one PCIe 16x looking slot that only works at 4x.

It also has 3x PCIe 1x slots.

Looks alrigh tto me.|||You are all ready to build. The psu brand is a little shakey. Corsair is a better choice and that should take care of all your power needs. The 700w Corsair model will be more than enough with room for overclocking/upgrade. Nevermind....Corsair only sells a 650 and a 750, no 700. The 650w should be good and it will allow for a slight overclock as well. ATI recommends 500w as a minimum with the 5850 so 650w should have it covered.

As for the thermal paste, don't worry about the vertical horizontal thing, put a small pea-sized blob in the middle and use something like a business card or other stiff card-object to spread it around evenly over the whole chip. There are many ways of applying thermal paste but thinner is usually better because the layer is only to fill the small gaps that form between the CPU and the heatsink. Spreading it helps thin out the layer of paste and so its a good idea.

3D PC games freeze my computer... Video card problem? or processor problem?

Board: SiS-648

P4 2.8ghtz

1g Ram

RADEON 9600 AGP

This was actually a replacement video card from a supposed faulty NVIDIA card. The original motherboard was also replaced prior to the graphics card replacement.

Everytime i try to play an installed game with 3D graphics, it freezes and I have to restart.

2D games play fine and no problems with video playback.

I sense theres a problem with the video card processing or the processor itself. The fan is running fine on the card and so is the CPU fan.

Do you think it could be a problem with the CPU? motherboard? graphics card?|||the video card you have is pretty old and outdated and only clocked at 325 mhz. not such a high end card. it could be that the game you're trying to play needs a better graphics card. the pentium 4 you have shouldn't be that much of a problem with 3d games, unless of course, ur running high end games. i suggest that you try and download the latest drivers for your graphics card first, it might fix the problem. if that fails, then buy a new graphics card using pci-e x16. AGP is pretty outdated.|||Maybe instead it being a problem with the individual componets, it could be a problem between the two. Meaning, they're not communicatig correctly resulting in an unstable enviroment. I'm not a computer expert, by any means though, so take this with a grain of salt. Also, maybe it's something as simple as drivers being out of date.|||delete the game from the drive you have install your xp in.

if the game s are big in space and installed in the main drive it simply crashes down your computer............

so install your games in the other drive|||yer vid card.

Replacing a fan on an Nvidia GeForce 7300 LE (Video Card)?

My fan went out and I can't seem to find a replacement fan for it online. i don't really want to go buy a new one as this does pretty much what I need it to do. Can anyone help?

Thanks|||if i'm right there is not replacement fans for video cards

Do u need a fan on a video card?

my fan on my video card starting to make a grinding noise so i removed it and im not too sure if i need to put a replacement fan on it. its a pny fx5200 pci card. i already have a new card on my computer but i want to throw this is a junked system so the on board video card doesnt need to take up the memory.|||Some video cards will still work with no fan. All depends what type of program is running . If the video card is needed for high graphic games etc... then you will likely need a fan or the game will freeze up. That's an indication that the card is overheating.

If the image gets jumpy or freezes then a replavement fan is needed. Myself I would opt to replace the fan .|||Well when I purchased a new graphics card (without a fan) my computer would just crash after maybe 3-5 hours of use. Then i got a fan installed on my computer and now it does not crash and works very smoothly.|||Absolutely yes! The processor on the video card is 10x more powerful than your CPU, just more speciallized. It will melt itself down without a fan.|||Graphics cards are engineered differntly, some with fans, some without. If it came with one, it needs one.|||erm if there was one already there it probably needs one...

Can pci slot fans replace a video card fan?

i have a video card with a broken fan

the video card, is outdated (actually the comuter is outdated)

so i dont want to buy a new heatsink and fan

there is a slot right above the graphic card, so can i use a pci slot fan as a replacement?

if so what should i look out for?

any recommendation that is cheap but effective?|||No, the only way that would work be if you underclocked everything, and, the slot cooler you got was a good one, nor some $5 piece of junk.|||I recomment buying a deceent cheap video card. The slot fan might help, but eventually that card is going to die anyway.

Can someone recommend a graphics card solution?

This is a bit of an odd problem. I built a barebones PC from scratch at the end of last year. Everything works for the most part, but after about 5 minutes of being powered on, the graphics card slows down to 5-10 fps while playing games, moving windows, or viewing flash videos - pretty much anything. It does not appear to be a heat issue, because this happens even when I crank the GPU fan all the way to the max. If I do crank the fan up, the temp stays at about 50 degrees celsius, if I leave it on auto, it climbs to 70-75 celsius. I thought that was high, but apparently that's normal for this card (EVGA 9800 GT 512mb). As far as I know, I haven't done anything to break the card's warranty, but the card and the system don't exactly throw any system errors or anything that can definitively say "bad graphics card". My CPU and memory rest at 48-50% in even the most demanding game scenarios, it's only the graphics that can't keep up. Also, once the fps problem starts, it doesn't recover until the machine is powered off, regardless of temperature. I'm moving in about 30 days, which also is going to make it complicated getting a replacement from EVGA - if I report it now, they'll send it to the wrong address (I haven't found a new address yet) and if I report it after I move, they'll likely blame it on moving the computer and refuse the refund. Also, I've had this problem ever since I built the computer, it is not a new occurance, but I have not previously reported the error.

So basically I'm faced with a connundrum - I can fight EVGA to get a replacement card, or I can buy a new card. If I do buy a new card, I actually want to buy two new SLI-compatible cards. My motherboard has two PCI-E 2 slots and both the board and the power supply are SLI-ready. However, I don't really know what graphics cards I should get if I go for SLI I've heard nvidia style 7600s work the best for SLI power supplies (SLI PSU spec is max 18A per 12v rail), but I've only seen one person suggest anything for SLi, and I don't really know enough to figure much else out.

Here are my specs:

Motherboard: Asus P5N-D

Power supply Specs: 600W

+3.3V - 25A

+5V - 30A

+12v1 - 18A

+12v2 - 18A

-5V - 0.8A

-12V - 0.8A

5Vsb - 2.0A

Memory - 2GB DDR2

CPU - 3.2ghz Pentium D (dual)|||There is a known issue with the 9800gt series and a voltage regulator temp problem (that the gpu fan does not address).

I would call EVGA anyway they have very good customer service. Tell them you suspect the temp VRM problem and ask if they can advance-RMA you a new card (which they will ask for your credit card to secure the replacement until your card arrives with them) so the moving problem will not be an issue.

A buddy of mine had 5 RMAs (yes FIVE incredible) until his VRM problem was eliminated through EVGA, was painful but worth it.

cheers

A single-card solution is always a better cost-effective solution than SLI, and SLI does not offer a performance advantage in all games.

Can my computer have 2 working video cards (128MB & 256MB)?

My current Video Card is making a noise from its fan. I took it to a repair shop and they told me that one of the fans on the video card is about to die out. I search all over the place to find a replacement for the dying fan, but I can't seem to find it. I was wondering how I would go about replacing my video card with a new one, of possibly just adding a second video card in my computer. I know they are usually plug-n-play, but I will need to find the drivers ahead of time, since Vista gives issues. Any advice?|||u can plug not just two but three at a time in PCI slot .. but make sure Only one will run at a time ... because the VGA or AGP plug is one .... (the plug which connects ur monitor with CPU is called VGA plug)...it is one only ...so u can not access 2 or 3 at time ..chao|||I would first put a drop of light oil on the fan bearings.|||Well I would suggest that if you want to keep the old one and get a new fan, call the manufacturer. Although it might cost you. (shipping-maybe, replacing, and labor).

For vista if you want to get a new video card, make sure it has directx 10.

No, the two video cards can't work on the same monitor, but I think they can work in other ways.

Video Card Recommendation Needed - 256MB AGP 4X?

For a Dell Dimension 4100 what would be a good AGP video card (128MB) priced under $100?

I don't play games or watch movies on this computer; however I suspect my current 34MB may be running out of gas. I was also advised to make sure the replacement card matches the motherboard's electrical capacity (3.3?). Also, what is the difference between DDR and SDR for cards? Does it make any difference? My card has a fan and I want the replacement to have one too.|||The 6600gt is about the best you are going to get for an agp and under $100.

I personally have one and its going to a a giant leap above anything thats in your dell.

Here is one from Newegg.com

About the RAM, you definately have sdram, not ddr. You should upgrade if you dont have at least 512mb.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…|||Dell Dimension 4100 has Bus type AGP (version 2.0).

The AGP 2.0 specification defined 1x, 2x and 4x speeds with the 3.3v, or 1.5v keyed connector or a 'Universal' connector which supported both card types.

Dell Dimension 4100 has Power DC power supply: Wattage 200 W

You will need to use a higher wattage power supply to power most video cards. That motherboard may need a Dell to ATX Power Supply Converter to use a non-Dell replacement power supply.

Tiger Direct usually will list the minimum needed power supply wattage to power cards they sell.

Operating Systems: Linux Mint (8), Open Suse (11.2), Mandriva 2010, and Win XP Home Ed. (SP3)

What I will be doing and playing:

-Assassin's Creed 2

-Splinter's cell conviction

-Prototype

-GTA 4

-NFS shift

-a WRC Rally game *aka no graphics heavy first person shooters like crysis*

-Video editing

-Live TV, Recorded TV and DVD's (don't own a TV)

-Maybe a tiny bit of manual overclocking, but nothing ridiculous, as a can't afford crazy fans, water coolers or temp monitors.

Parameters (if you know something that would work better please let me know!):

-at or under $50

-fits into a somewhat small case (that can apparently fit a GT250, but still, less cramped the better)

-NOT LOUD

-not going to be competing online so frame rate isn't "vital", but I'd like to be able to max every game above as much as possible for $50 or less (and have it run smoothly). consider me less of a gamer and more of a multimedia user.

the 3 I'm choosing between all have unique pros and cons, I'm not sure which of them are important

--------------------------------------…

Gigabyte NVidia GeForce 9500GT (512mb)

Pros

-best Mem clock speed (1600Mhz which is 2x as much as competitors)

-GDDR3 instead of GDDR2 memory (I'm assuming these two pros are linked)

Cons

-only one w/ directX 10 instead of 10.1

-Oldest of the 3 (which could be a pro because it seems to have plenty of good reviews)

--------------------------------------…

Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 4650 (1GB)

Pros:

-1Gb of GDDR2 ram

Cons:

-everything else is average, and I've heard 1Gb is pretty useless unless you are a super gamer.

--------------------------------------…

Gigabyte NVidia GT 220 (512Mb)

-I think this is the newest model to come out (supposedly a replacement for the 9500GT)

-48 stream processors (compared to the other two's 32)

-OpenGL 3.1 support (and dX 10.1) - other 2 are 2.1

Cons

-slightly slower core clock speed (625Mhz compared to 650 for the other two)

-Can't find many reviews

WHICH WOULD YOU PICK?

more processing units (GT 220) and support for OGL3.1?

2x as much ram (4650)?

GDDR3 and twice as much MC speed, but no dX 10.1 (just reg DX 10)?

Thank you so much for your response. have a great day!|||Ok, for 2 reasons I say pick the GT 220.

#1 - ATi drivers for Linux are spotty at best (and that's only when they're available)

#2 - The GT 220 is a bit faster than a 9500 GT and it has the DX 10.1 and OpenGL 3.1

http://www.madshrimps.be/?action=getarti…

There's a performance review.|||don't go for the more ram. At this point, 1gb video cards suck shyster compared to some 512mb cards. in the same price range. A high-quality 512mb card will get you much better performance than any 1gb in the same price range. More RAM is not better. Just the opposite in most cases. Go for the GDDR3 or whatever the heck it is. Go for higher speed, screw memory capacity. That doesn't mean jack.|||Well, you aren't going to max out all games with a $50 card. The minimum threshold for anyone dipping their toes into GTA 4 waters would be the Radeon 4670- which is about $15 more expensive, but twice as fast as a 9500GT. Given that systems with $150 graphics cards still have trouble maxing out GTA, the performance gain/price is just too much to ignore. But that game aside, I think you'd be be fine with your current choices.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

Of the cards you've listed, I'd probably go with the GDDR3 9500GT card.

You are correct that having 1gb vs 512mb doesn't matter unless you're gaming at VERY high resolutions (higher than 1900x1200, which cards in this price range can't realistically handle anyway)

When comparing gaming performance of GDDR2 cards, the 4650 beats the 9500GT:

http://www.pcgameshardware.com/aid,65935…

http://xtreview.com/addcomment-id-6278-v…

I consider DirectX 10.1 support to be a non-issue. Since DX11 is already here, I don't expect developers to be spending much time trying to take advantage of that. OpenGL support is almost meaningless for games, but if your days are spent in Photoshop, the GT220 with 3.1 support might be the shrewd pick.

http://gizmodo.com/5368037/directx-101-v…

One final thought: TV-out and DVD playback is generally better on ATI cards than Nvidia cards- it's been that way for years. ATI's Avivo technology simply beats Nvidia's Purevideo in terms of image quality. In fact, I notice the quality difference even with regular output to LCD monitors. If that's more important to you than gaming performance, then go with the 4650 (or as I suggested, spend $15 more and get a 4670)|||If you are mostly wanting to play games but can't afford a good computer, I really recommend second thinking the computer part. Consoles are going to give you a lot smoother frame rate and better graphics than a bottom of the line computer. I'm not sure if you had other tasks in mind, but you may want to just think about getting a PS3 as you can install Linux on it.|||I would pick the ATI 4650, it has better performance than the other 2 cards. The stream processors in the ATI card are 320 not 32.

If you could afford another 15$ go for the 4670 with GDDR3 memory instead of GDDR2.

What compatible video card for compaq presario SR1550NX?

below is all the info on the computer. about two years ago I put in a visiontek radeon HD2400 pro AGP video card to support the new monitor I bought. The monitor is a Gateway FPD1975w. it has 720p and 1440x900 res. recently my daughter has been playing club penguin and a few other kid games online and once in a while, the monitor would shut off and say no signal. then yesterday it kept doing it and then I couldn't get it to run windows unless it was in safe mode. So I uninstalled the drivers for the video card and the computer works just fine now, just everything on the screen is really big. I took out the video card and a couple of the fan blades were cracked and the basically the fan on the card is junk now. I kept getting the blue screen that said there was a problem with ait2dvag file. my computer also didn't want to install the drivers because it said there was a problem with the signature. So I'm looking for a new card that is compatible with windows xp home edition and will work with my monitor and play some games on the computer. I'm not a gamer but my daughter likes to play her games online. i figure those games wouldn't bog down the card like that, but it only happened when she was playing the computer. is it worth buying a new card or should i upgrade some components or just get a new computer? also, am I stuck with AGP or can I go PCI and which is better? thanks in advance

How can video card manufactures tell if the card had been overclocked?

I had a 7300LE for little over a year and the fan on board had failed and i had overclocked it and want to send the card in for replacement|||There is a couple ways the manufacturer can find out. One is simply inspecting the card and seeing that the GPU shows signs of overheating. The temperature of the GPU increases as you overclock, and if it melts or shades, the manufacturers will know.

You BIOS of your motherboard keeps hidden log files of frequencies and adjustments. If the manufactures got a hold of your computer (you sent it back to them), they could check those log files and see if you messed with any values.

Most of the newer cards you can overclock without voiding your warranty (obviously if you send back a melted card, they won't replace it). If your interested, the 7300LE won't overclock very well, and if you do overclock, you won't see much of a performance boost. The card isn't meant for cranking out power and the heatsinks won't keep it cool enough. This could cause serious damage if it overheats by overclocking it. |||They can't. The only reason a manufacturer would deny you a new card would be if you volt modded or replaced the default heatsink and fan with a third party heat sink and fan. They cannot tell if you have overclocked it.|||Heat damage.

Do I have to replace my Radeon 6770 Video Card because of the broken fan?

My friend's idiot brother stuck his finger into the card's fan when I was talking. I didn't notice him do that and there was something already wrong with it so I took it to Geek Squad. The motherboard, processor, AND video card were recommended for replacement. Can I save this thing? I'd love not to spend another $140 on a new video card. Please help me!|||LOL Geeksquad,

Try this 1st buy an aftermarket fan for the 6770 and install it.

I'm also going to state the there's a 95% chance the CPU is fine also.

If there is actually a main board issue you have two options.

1: Buy and install your own replacement board or replacement capacitors guaranteed to cost less than they charge.

2: Let Geek Squad overcharge you and mangle it like a gorilla on crank and charge you for a CPU and video card that may or may not be actually replaced and yet charged for.

What you can do if you go the geek squad route. Write down the individual serial # of the CPU and Video card and Main board. Make sure your simply not writing down a model number but a unique number of that component or mark them with permanent marker.

If you get your original parts back but get charged for new ones raise a huge stink they charge enough for new parts they ought as well install them.|||Geek Squad is ripping you off, just like they do with most people who bring computers to them. NEVER EVER TAKE A COMPUTER TO THEM! They're lying, incompetent idiots.

Take it back and check sites like Newegg. They have a bunch of third party coolers for video cards. You should be able to find one that fits your card for less than $50.|||Was the computer still running and working before you took it in? If so, the fan on the video card is easily replaced.|||Chances are the card is fine and as said its easy to fit a new one, what were the other symptoms then????

Video card fan spins, but get no video?

A while back my video card decided to bite the dust (EVGA gtx260 core 216 superclocked edition) and when it happened my PSU started making these random click noises (Antec 850watt)..the click noises stopped soon after and i ended up finding a 9400gt to use until my RMA came in for the gtx260. Well once it came in i installed it and the fan spins like its trying to work but it gets no video..its hard to think it would be something with the slot because the 9400GT works just fine (im on it right now and have been for a while). I don't have any means of testing the replacement card because i dont know anyone who has a computer with a pci-e 2.0 slot so thats out of the ball park. Im considering purchasing a new PSU because there are really good after christmas sales going on right now. So i guess my question is: Does it sound like the video card is just a DOA replacement, or could my power supply be the reason its jack'd up. Thanks in advance|||I would have to say PSU, the fan gets its power from PCI-E slot, the card gets its power form the 2 6-pin PCI-E Connectors. Did you remember to plug those in? If they are plugged in, and you get nothing then I would say bad card or PSU. Get the PSU from some place like Fry's that have a liberal return policy that way if it turns not to be the PSU, you can return it.|||IF your video card is compatible then you might have jerked the RAM..just remove the RAM an put it back should solve the problem..if not then

Video card fan?

I have a Sparkle GeForce 8600 GT / 512MB DDR2 / SLI Ready / PCI Express / DVI / VGA / HDTV / Video Card and the fan sounds like it's slowly dying. I've went to Microcenter and they didn't have a replacement fan for it and he told me to look online. I don't know what to look for exactly. I have taken the card apart and got the fan out, cleaned it and it still makes noise and hardly spins.

<img src= >http://images.tigerdirect.com/skuimages/large/S15-1016-main3.jpg> That is my video card. I just need the fan underneath the silver thing.

What the heck is it called or where can I find it?

Here is more details about the card.

PLEASE HELP. I don't want my card to overheat.|||just buy a fan with the same measurements.

You can contact Sparkle, they may sell you one

I have heard that by removing the fans and giving them a liberal soaking with wd-40, then cleaning them so no residue gets inside the computer, that you can greatly extend the life of a failing fan.

What is the best video card for an Emachines ET1331G-03W with dvi out?

I am looking for a replacement video card for my Emachines ET1331G-03w desktop it needs to either have a dvi out or hdmi out. I am trying to use my tv as a monitor but the tv does not have a vga input. I don't want to drop a lot of cash into this but i want it to look nice i only am going to use the desktop for the internet and watching videos that's about all im not into gaming or anything like that. I checked out a few from walmart that look like they might work but im not sure cause i don't know much about the internal computer stuff.

XFX Geforce 9400GT PCI-E 2.0 512MB DDR Video Card with DVI and TV Output, PVT94GYHH2

or

MSI Video GeForce GT220 1GB DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 DVI/HDMI Graphics Card

or

MSI Video GeForce 210 1GB DDR3 PCI Express x16 2.0 DVI/HDMI Graphics Card

those are what i have in mind but like i said i really dont know anything about the internals of a computer and also what do you think would be good power supply because i do know i will have to upgrade that and will i need a bigger fan to cool it or what any help would really be appreciated|||Consider the ATI HD 5570. It is just a 39 watt card but better than those graphics cards you listed. In benchmarks below, it beats the Geforce GT220.

Your PC's existing power supply should have no problem powering the ATI HD 5570.|||Desktops forum: eMachines ET1331G-03W Video Upgrade

Help replacing a video card's fan in a BTX form factor?

I need to get a new fan/heatsink on my 8600gt graphics card because my current one isnt keeping it cool enough. However I have a slight problem. My computer is a BTX form factor motherboard/case. So I need a VGA cooler replacement for my video card that is BTX compatible..

For anyone who doesn't know, BTX form factor is just a reversed motherboard basically of the normal ATX form factors. Which means in the end (which is my problem here) the video card fan/heatsink placed in the motherboard will be facing upwards instead of down like a normal ATX PC.

Basically I'm just wondering if anyone else like me with a BTX form factor PC has had to buy a new VGA cooler and if they or anyone else knows of a BTX compatible VGA cooler for me to replace my current crappy fan/heatsink on my 8600gt video card.

Thanks in advanced. Any help is appreciated|||dont get a new fan? just download riva tuner and set the fan speed to 70% or something, it will be louder but still it saves money.
